Building Sustainable Communities
Building sustainable communities in East Tennessee and the broader Appalachian region is essential for preserving the unique landscapes and cultures that define this area. Appalachian Outdoors Collective is committed to fostering a deep connection between local communities and the land, ensuring that outdoor recreation, conservation, and responsible development go hand in hand. Through education and advocacy, the Collective works to empower residents and local leaders to engage in sustainable practices and advocate for policies that support both the environment and the region’s economy. By promoting responsible land stewardship, we help create communities that thrive while safeguarding the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, rivers, and natural ecosystems.
The Collective’s focus on public lands policy is vital to protecting the future of East Tennessee and all 13 states of the Appalachian Region. The Appalachian Mountains are often referred to as a temperate rainforest, a rare and unique ecosystem that thrives in the region’s abundant moisture and diverse climate. This lush environment is characterized by high levels of precipitation, which supports a rich tapestry of plant and animal life. The Appalachians are home to dense forests with mosses and ferns, creating a vibrant, green landscape similar to the Pacific Northwest. This ecosystem not only sustains a wide variety of species, including some that are found nowhere else on Earth, but it also plays a crucial role in regulating water cycles and contributing to the health of the broader environment. The temperate rainforest of the Appalachians is a living testament to the region's incredible biodiversity and ecological importance and must be protected with high regard and urgency.
